Cloudify: Volume Displacement Modifier for Blender 5+

$10

Blender 5+ only!

What is Cloudify?
Cloudify is a Geometry Nodes–based modifier that transforms any watertight 3D object into a fully volumetric cloud right inside Blender 5. Great for creating cloud or snow-like 3D effects.

It’s a demonstration setup showcasing Blender’s new Grid system — designed for you to study, repurpose, or adapt for your own creative experiments.

Features

  • Non-destructive modifier: Works like any other Blender modifier — mix it with Subdivision, Displace, Remesh, etc.
  • Procedural volume generation: Converts meshes into density grids and displaces them using layered noise fields.
  • Fully editable: Tweak voxel size, noise scale, and displacement strength for variations.
  • Demonstration setup: Use it as a learning resource or a foundation for your own volumetric workflows.
  • VDB Export: The node tree contains a 'Bake' node for exporting the volume as a VDB.

The video covers:

  • How Blender’s new Grid system enables controllable volumetric displacement
  • Step-by-step setup of volume displacement in geometry nodes.
  • Tips for performance and rendering

Watching this video first is strongly recommended, especially if you’re new to Blender 5’s Grid and Volume Displacement system.

⚠️ Caution

This setup isn’t for the faint-hearted!
It’s intended for users who want to dig deeper into Blender’s new Grid and Volume Displacement systems.
👉 It’s strongly recommended you watch the companion tutorial video first to understand how it works.

⚙️System Requirements & Performance Warning

Cloudify performs complex volumetric calculations using Blender’s new Grid system.
For best results, a higher-end PC or Laptop is strongly recommended — ideally with:

  • 32 GB or more RAM
  • A dedicated NVIDIA GPU (RTX-class preferred)
  • Blender 5.0 or later (Cycles renderer recommended)

Lower-spec systems may still open the files but will experience slow render, longer bake times, and potential crashes when working with smaller voxel sizes.

💡 Tips

  • Ensure your object is scaled up (around 2-10 m in size) for the most effective results.
  • Always apply scale (Ctrl + A) before adding the modifier.
  • Your mesh should be watertight. If not, try adding a Remesh Modifier before Cloudify.
  • Example files are included — voxel sizes are increased for performance; adjust them manually with care.

📦 Included

  • .blend file with the Cloudify modifier setup as a Blender Asset.
  • The example .blend file from the free tutorial video.
  • Example scenes and test objects seen in the images here.
